How Long Do Magic Mushrooms Stay in Your System?

Have you ever wondered how long magic mushrooms actually stay in your system? Whether you’re curious about trying psilocybin for the first time or planning your next dose, it’s a smart question to ask.

So, how long does psilocybin stick around?

The short answer: not very long.

Psilocybin (the active compound in magic mushrooms) is quickly broken down into psilocin, which is what creates the effects you feel, things like altered perception, emotional shifts, and sometimes, the giggles.

The effects usually last around 4 to 6 hours, depending on your dose, body weight, and metabolism. But what about after that?

How long is psilocybin detectable?

Even after your trip fades, your body is still busy processing psilocin. Here’s a breakdown of how long it can be detected:

Test Type	Detection Window	Notes
Urine	Up to 24 hours (rarely 2–3 days)	Longer for higher doses
Blood	About 6 hours	Short detection window
Hair	Several months (theoretical)	Rarely tested for

What affects how long it stays in your body?

Several factors play a role in how long psilocybin sticks around:

Dose size
Your metabolism
Liver and kidney health
Hydration and diet

So if you’re taking a microdose capsule from Zoomers, the amount is tiny and clears quickly. But if you’re enjoying a full elixir or chocolate bar (not what we recommend!)? You might feel it a bit longer.

What about drug tests?

Most standard drug panels do not test for psilocybin. It’s not part of routine workplace or sports screenings. But if you’re in a special program or legal situation, it’s smart to ask about the specific substances they’re testing for.
